Question Are onions ok? Cooked or raw?

Hi.
I think I remember reading somewhere (maybe even here) that raw onions were a no-no (that I'm fairly sure of) But what about cooked ones?

Thanks!

Onions are very very bad! Cooked or raw. Mark them on your "NO NO" list.

If cooked in something and fed sparingly, they are probably fine! I mean, after all, people make spaghetti and other foods that may contain onions and feed those to their birds without issues! Just don't make a habit out of it....

As I understand it we're one of the few critters that can eat onions without too many difficulties. While my ekkies have swiped some of my plate of spagetti while I wasn't looking, I try to avoid giving them anything onion based. If you're interested, there's a fairly comprehensive article on onions and birds here:

Onions, Garlic & Birds

Yep... they have no idea if it does the same thing in birds. Better safe than sorry... but don't sweat the small amount in the speghetti sauce!

thanks for the article....

heard that onions or garlic shouldn't be fed in large amounts, and if then only cooked. i usually don't feed them as i cook separately for the fids.
however, i also don't think that they're dangerous if fed in small amounts every now and then....

No Maam. Onions are on the NO NO list for our babies. Toxic to them.
