Question Are these safe for parrots?

Ok...

Anyone see any reason not to use these as a training aid for my Sun? It is the ONLY thing she is wild about to work for!

Nutro Natural Choice Crunchy Treats with Real Berries Dog Treats - PetFoodDirect

I see nothing dangerous in the ingredients... good stuff in there actually. Granted they are not great for her. But neither are sunflower seeds which many people use for training.

BTW... my dog who refuses all treats and is not even wild about bacon LOVES these!

Have you tried granola bars? There are alot of "bad" fats in those. I would never give something to my birds that was considered a "treat" for dogs.

Have you tried some small nuts as a training treat? I use walnuts for Echo and he loves them. The only time he ever gets walnuts is with training so he has connected them to learning fun.. I buy them pre shelled and they are real easy to break up into small pieces.. Chris

I have heard that food and treats for other animals does not have to pass the same standards for bacteria. As birds are more sensitive. However, I don't really know if that's true but something to consider. Also, "ferrous sulfate" is that some form of iron? I don't really know but remember, birds are not carnivores like dogs, and can develop metal poisoning.

I have tried every nut, berry, and dried fruit available at 3 different health food / natural foods stores. She could not care less. Even pine nuts. Even peanuts. Coconut. Pineapple. Apples - dried and fresh. Fig newtons. Birdie popcorn (I think it was the pineapple flavored).

She will eat them all in her food bowl... but not hand fed. Just drops them. Uninterested. Training a totally unmotivated bird is none too easy. (we are still bonding... so she is not really too into scritches yet. Getting there though! She will now raise a wing for armpit scritches!)

Yes, bad fats are a no-no. And McDonald's fries are none to good for me... but every once and a while I still eat them!

I am more worried about something toxic that I do not recognize. Heck... look at the crap that is in Kaytee pellets! I would have NEVER guessed that THEY were none too good for birds.
