unsalted shelled peanuts

I was just wondering if feeding unsalted shelled peanuts is ok. I put them with his other food I feed him. I also just started sprouting seeds to give him and he seems to like them. Love all the links on where to buy spouts. I received a sample pack of them to try.

rugreno, yes, you can feed unsalted peanuts, however, there are healthier alternatives. Peanuts can contain aflotoxins (fungi) that could be deadly. Granted, there are parrots out there who have been eating peanuts for years without issues, however, I find it easier to avoid them altogether so as to aviod the entire issue.

Thanks Monica and Amanda for the feedback. I will cut his peanut intake back. He love his shelled almonds as well. Been giving him sprouts which he is liking but I don't know to what extreme. I also give him in a seperate dish this Herb Salad with 22 different kinds of herbs...he is liking that as well.

The 13 or other number of bean mix is NOT recommended by Feeding Feathers. Only mung, adzuki, lentil, pea and garbanzo are recommended for sprouting, and also are considered best for cooking though the multi-bean mixes can be soaked overnight and cooked. They are not considered as digestible though as the recommended varieties.

The recommended sprouting legumes need to have minimum 1/2" tails before serving to the birds, with the exception of lentil which can have 1/4" tails.

I hated buying sprout mixes with "filler" that never really sprouted, so I just make my own. We do adzuki, lentil, and mung and everyone eats it. Even the budgies eat the sprout ends Actually, little Mickey is now eating sprouts in very small quantities.

Do you also sprout a grain mix? Birds LOVE that, and the combination of grains and legumes creates complete protein with all the amino acids. Two parts grains, one part legumes (cooked or sprouted). Lots of vegetables, and a little fruit too, of course!

What are about Bourke's?

Are all of the listed foods safe for Bourke's? I read somewhere that melon and squash were to be avoided.
