Calling all birdies...it's muffin time

I just finished making Birdy Muffins.

Spicy Vegie:
I used 4...count 'em....4 Habanero peppers...they scared me...LOL
Spinach
carrots
red bell pepper
1 tsp chilli powder
crushed up peanuts

Fruity:
apples
blueberries
pineapple
peaches
1 tsp cinnamon
crushed up Nutriberries

Base:
1/3 cup wheat germ
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup canola oil

1 cup fruit juice, apple or orange. I didn't have any fruit juice, so I just used water to moisten...

bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes.


Anyway, Pita should be fine for quite a while. I used muffin aluminum tins....so there are 18 of each.

I'm knackered....now who's gonna cook for me!

Thanks for the recipe, I am going to try that. I may try half baby food and half juice to moisten the muffins. I have made carrot muffins for my human kids using carrot baby food and they didn't even know I slipped the extra veg in there. They were really moist.

I noticed a lot of recipes have peppers or pepper flakes. Do birds taste the heat from them and do they like that?

I was curious about that as well, so this is what I found out.

Birds don't produce saliva, and that is what activates the heat in peppers that we taste. So they like the taste, but don't taste the heat.

Looks good! I just recommend eliminating the baking soda (high sodium) and cutting down on the baking powder - 1 tsp would be plenty. Birds don't need light and airy, and they have good, strong beaks. Also, I'd cut the oil by at least 1/2. That's a lot of oil. You also can add powdered pellets to your mix.
