Question Flax for parrots?

I got some ground flax today. How much can I give the birds? Should I just sprinkle a little on their pellets daily? They seem to like it. Esp. Ben who eats anything!

I put whole flax seeds in my seed/grain mix. They like em. I don't really measure em out, I just throw em in the mix, so I'm not sure about amounts, though.

Flax seed and flax seed oil are both excellent for them. I think sprinkling it on like you have been doing is a great treat!

Flaxseed is great. I sprinkle a bit here and there on my fids' pelleted food. My TAG loves oatmeal, so I'll stir about 1/2 teaspoon into her oatmeal if she has oatmeal for breakfast.

The beneficial oils in ground flaxseed degrade very quickly, and it's recommended to buy fresh, whole seeds, grind about one week's worth at a time in a dedicated coffee grinder, and store the ground seeds in the refrigerator. I also store the whole seeds refrigerated. Many birds will crack and eat the whole seeds in which case you don't need to grind them. All mine crack and eat them, even the Macaw. Only a small amount is needed - too much adds an excess of fat to the diet. About 1/4 tsp. for a 250 gram parrot, 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. for 500 grams, and 1/2 tsp to 3/4 tsp for 1,000 grams. The contain Omega 3 essential fatty acids.

The flax seeds have beneficial fiber to help prevent constipation, the oil doesn't so the seeds are best.
