Food Find at Trader Joe's

Hi guys...

I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's ... always looking for something yummy that might be good for not only me, but my birds as well.

Anyway, I was there a few days ago and found a grain mix that my birds love, so I'd thought I'd share.

It's called:

Trader's Joe's Harvest Grains Blend ..

It's got Couscous, Orzo, Baby Garbanzo Beans, Red Quinoa, Dried Pepper and Dried Spinach in it.

I think it would make a great base to a birdie mash, or just serve it on it's own.

I added some ground ginger, cinnamon and cayenne pepper to it for a little "zip" .. it really has been a big hit!!

Here's a picture of the bag it comes in, and what it looks like cooked up.

I wish they had a Houston, Texas location. My son lived in Ohio and loved that store!

Looks good - I'd just double check the label to make sure the couscous and orzo are whole grain wheat, not from refined white flour (sometimes listed as enriched wheat flour or simply wheat flour on labels). Trader Joe's is such a great store with wonderful products!

It says wheat flour .. which I know isn't the best, but I'm not planning on using it as a staple food, or in large quantities. I could buy all the ingredients separately, and use whole wheat orzo and couscous, but for convenience, this still isn't a bad little mix.

Beat all you slow pokes! MUWHAAA!

Went yesterday, got two bags, cooked it up last night, added some fresh raw veggies to it (broccolli, carrots, califlower, tomatoes) and served it up to them before I left for work!

It did look appetizing, thanks Merlie for the heads up. :)

*I don't like Trader Joes in DC...god, the crowd (everyone always wants to go to the "IN" store)!! It was stressfull, people were pushing and shoving as if they were the only ones with a place to be and a time to be there. The store was so crowded that I was unable to do my usual browsing to see if anything struck my fancy. :(

My birds liked that mix, too!
And while at Trader Joes and Whole Foods, I noticed that the pomegranates are in!
