Veggies!

Wow, just wow. I have had chico for 13 years and he is not a veggie lover. This weekend though, he sure chowed down on some carrot, cucumber, broccoli, peas and squash! I am thrilled! His poops were so much more watery afterward though, he eats harrisons so I am use to them being very firm. This is normal isn't it? And is cucumber ok daily? I have read conflicting info.

Congratulations on getting your bird to expand his taste for vegetables! Fresh food, especially fruit, will result in more urine content to the feces. It is not diarrhea, just normal for consuming more food containing a higher amount of water. Cucumber is not very nutritious, fine to offer a bit occasionally, but I would offer other vegetables on a daily basis.

Thanks :) he does wnjoy the occasional grape but hant really enjoyed fesh fruits much. I am going to offer lots more veggies and fruits now though, I had almost given up! I am not sure what caused the change. I added an official treat bowl in his cage and at first only used it for stuff I know he loves like healthyish people food bits and seed, then I tried the veggies and after a bit he was all over them. My parents were here this weekend too, he is absolutely obsessed with my dad, will waddle over ANYTHING to get to him, but I doubt the visit had anything to do with it. Either way, I am pleased. :)

Isn't it wonderful when they start to eat veggies!! My boys (and now girl) love their veggies. I don't think Emi had touched them before she came to me but I had some Beak Appetite (the mix you add water to and microwave, a favorite around here) and Emi chowed down on it! I gave her roughly a tablespoon and when I went home for lunch today it was ALL GONE!! = ) So that makes 3 of my babies who love their beak appetite.

Also a hit around here, corn and peas mixed with sprouts. Neko and Oliver go NUTS for sprouts - and now Emi too!!!

I am actually finding my flock will eat their veggies first before their Zupreem. I fill their bowls with Zupreem and top it off with veggies and fruit and some nuts. They eat all the good stuff first and then the Zupreem.

That is cute he loves you dad. Chiquita hates my dad, lol. She freaks out on him, Chiquita loves my mom because when ever she comes over my mom overloads her with treats. Boomer, well that bird loves anyone that will give him attention and is always willing to go on anyone for about 5 minutes, then he flys to me.

Im really glad he likes the veggies and fruit now, that is so good for them to eat. Now you can experiment with new fruits and veggies. Boomer is a little picky with his fruits and veggies because he has never been offered them. Chiquita, well that bird eats what ever I put in front of her, lol. She is one big IRN and you can tell she eats well.

Keep offering it to him, Im bet your thrilled.

I think it is great he is eating veggies..Though some fruits are nice and it adds to the variety of nutrients vits etc. A lot of fruits are more "sugary" and water, like grapes and melon for example.
No doubting that they do add something. But veggies have always seemed more important to me in the nutrients department.
Cucumber, I know others have already said but I echo, that there is not a lot in them, but if he likes them then some is fine, especially if he already has Harrisons and other stuff like squashes.
As part of the Harrisons diet they do suggest leafy green veg and yellow meaty veg.
So I just wanted to say ....great stuff and well done.
