Are pinecone treats safe?

Yesterday at the pet store I saw a pine cone coated in seeds and grains. It is marketed for cockatiels but that doesn't always mean it is a safe treat. I believe the seeds are held to the pine cone by a corn syrup mixture but I am not entirely sure. I know too much sugar is bad for our fids. If I offer the pinecone on the play gym where I can watch how much my green cheek eats, would it be ok for him to have it. Are pine cones generally considered safe chewable toys?

Thanks for the help
Amanda

I attached a picture of a similar pinecone. The one I saw was a different brand though.

Abbey likes the store ones... She hates peanut butter. She is to prissy to get her beak dirty

Guess this answered the question...yes, Pinecone treats are safe.

*The store-brought ones may not be very nutritious, but this can be rectified by making one's own.

p.s. A google search would bring up Pine cones that can be purchased and recipes!

These are pine nuts which I pick for my birds on a regular basis. I just give them a sprinkle of water to wash of airborne dirt. They are nutritious, supply essential oils and are reported to be an aphrodiasiac to parrots. I will have to re-find the actual article to support this. Why don't you do this : Be observant, watch the birds out in nature. See where they are landing when they are out foraging for food. They are the best teachers giving us all a free valuable lesson in their like, dislikes and habits.
