Harrison's bird bread

I ordered and received my first bag of harrison's bird bread. I usually make my own. Anyway, do you think I could replace the water and oil with mashed pumpkin? I don't usually use water or oil in my bread. Any reason why I shouldn't add blueberries? How big of a pan can I use? It says a bread pan but I would rather it be thinner. Thanks!

Making birdie bread is more or less a free form event - try it, and see if it works. I might use half homemade, unsweetened apple sauce (just plain cooked, mashed apples) or another fruit, pureed and the other half plain cooked mashed (or plain, canned, NOT pie filling) pumpkin. Some raw vegetables finely chopped could be worked in also.

So it's okay to leave out the oil and water? I'm adding canned pumpkin, diced squash, and blueberries.

I made some of this just the day before yesterday, but I have no good input on substitution, I would think with adding the pumkin and such you wouldn't need to add the water or the oil, /shrug experiment and report back! :p mebbe I'll try it with the next batch!

I also use the Harrisons bird bread... I hardly follow the recipe... instead of water I add way more veggies chopped up and some no sugar added, organic apple juice....

you can pretty much throw whatever you want in there...

I'll also put some sweet potato baby food in there and some seeds...

I made harrisons bird bread plain, followed the recipe on the back. It was the awfulest looking stuff in the world. I'll never do that again! Momma's birdie bread is much better if I'm too lazy to be creative. I spend too much time chopping veggies for mash and sprouting, cooking the bean mixes, I need something easy!

I ordered a loaf of the momma's brand today. Glad to know it's good stuff. It was on sale for $7 something. I can't make homemade for less than that. I feel the same way. Something quick and easy would be a nice change.
That's one of the main reasons I ordered stuff from Avian Organics. Lots of fun choices without having to do all the work.
