Best Avian Health Book?

Hi all. I'm looking for recommendations for a book that covers parrot health. It should be specific to health and first-aid (?), not a general "here's an overview of things you should know about pet birds" type of book. Given the rapid advances in aviculture in the past years, I'd prefer it to be relatively recent.

I have a sun conure, if that makes a difference, but I realize there probably isn't a book specific just to conure health.

Any suggestions?

have you thought about joining some type of conure society?? they usually print out newsletters and mail them to you, or just email you articles and stuff. idk much about conures, so i cant refer you to a conure club, but they are so popular, im sure you can find several good ones :)

another option is ask your avian vet! they read alot and get lots of up-to-date articles and newsletters about the newest info on all sorts of birds. they can also give you a list of good reading material. mine gave me some huge books to read about avian disease and symptoms when i asked for it.

another option is to find a good breeder who specializes in conures. breeders can tell you everything there is to know about them, from eggs and incubation, handrearing, developmental phases, personalities, special diets and diff foods to give, a good knowledgeable breeder can give you a whole wealth of info from their own first hand experience :)

"the complete pet bird owner's handbook" by gary a. gallerstein gives a good overview of avian physiology and health.

the behavior section is not very good, but the rest of the book is still worth the investment and it's one of the more basic books.... also includes x-rays, photographs etc. i like it

I second the Complete Pet Bird Owner's Handbook by D. Gary A Gallerstein. It is an excellent book!

Visit Avaian Publications. There are tons of great books there. I found most of them to be less expensive than what you can find on Amazon or Ebay too.

My favorite book, though it's really written for veterinarians, is Clinical Avian Medicine and Surgery by Harrison and Harrison.
