Popcorn

:) I just had to share this with you.

I love popcorn and last night while watching American Idol decided to make a large bowl for myself. Of course my little mae was watching with me. She perched herself up on my should and seem interested in the show. Well I thought I would share some popcorn with Mae. Well at first she hissed at it. So I so oh well and teased her a bit eating it and sounded like I was really enjoying it. Well that worked. I kept it up keeping it away. When I finally gave it to her she bit into it and was hooked. She liked it so much that she ended up jumping into the bowl (which ended my snack) and started wildly taking bites out of the pieces of popcorn and throwing them into the air and going after another piece while trying to stomp around in it.

I alway heard people saying to make those sounds like you were really enjoying and food and keep it away from the bird and that would get to them. It really works. It was so funny.

Just had to share.

Heidi

Re: Popcorn

OH, I love that story. It is so funny. I will have to try this with my birds when they are stubborn.

Re: Popcorn

Jake loves popcorn, usually I make hiis separately, and sprinkle red chili flakes on it. It's messy, but a good snack. My little guy will try just about anything, I really lucked out there. The breeder I got him from starts all of her babies on fruits and veggies as soon as they are eating on their on thier own. In fact when I picked him up from the airport his carrier had lots of fresh fruits and veggies in it.

Since then, last October, I have tried lots of different foods and he tries all of them.

Re: Popcorn

I've heard hot peppers but thanks for the idea of the red chilli flakes.

Yesterday half a bagel was left and not used so I put it on top of the cage and took the tiels out and they just loved it.

My youngest one is the best with accepting food. The other two are starting to follow her lead.

Re: Popcorn

Popcorn is what started my relationship with my cockatiel....

She was really skittish when I got her (she had lived in another home without much attention) and for a while would not let me near her. But one time when I had popcorn, I showed it to her to tell her I would put it in her dish.. and she came and nibbled it out of my fingers! She's not good with new foods, usually just eats her pellets and seed, but she sure likes popcorn... none of the other birds like it that much. :)

Re: Popcorn

I gotta ask: Is popcorn okay for birds? Of course, if I were to share, I would have to make separate bowls, my version is WAY too salty for a little bird!

Re: Popcorn

I have fed it to my birds as a snack, they love it. .. but like any other "human food" give it to them sparingly.
