birthday candles

my boyfriends birthday is this weekend. this will be the first bday in the house since we have had shadow. i am wondering, would it be safe to light a candle on his cake if it was in the other room away from shadow? it wouldnt be any scented candle or anything, just the little skinny ones u stick in birthday cake.
im not sure if unscented candles are ok or not.. is there anything harmful in the wick when burned or is it just the smell of the scented candles??

thanks a lot
jessica

Jessica, unscented candles are just fine and they won't stay lit for long anyway!

ok thanks! i have never really bothered with unscented candles before (besides bday candles) ... i used to be a candle FANATIC, but its something that i didnt mind giving up for shadow (like i had a choice lol).. i never really bothered with unscented ones because to me the whole love of candles was the yummy smell that came along with them.

good to know b-day candles are ok :) thank you

Make sure the wick has NO lead, or wire in it.

would the flame be hot enough to evaporate (?) the wire? if at all, it COULD probably melt, right... and then there's minimal fumes (metal melts don't really have a high vapor pressure)
or am I overlooking something? [nerd curiosity kicked in ]

I think those would be fine, they just seem like the typical
I'd stay away from 'trick candles' though, I bet they let off some nasty stuff!

They look fine. If made in the U.S. they will be lead free wicks. After you open them break one look at the wick. If you see metal in it toos them.

Yes, the metal will melt, and release fumes.
