Scaly Face Mites
Last Monday Feb 11th, I brought my bird to the vet because I suspected that she had scaly face mites. Turns out that she did and she was given Ivermectin to treat the mites. I have her isolated away from my other 5 birds. The vet told me to go to the pet shop and pick up Scalex to treat the mites on each bird. I'm pretty sure that my other 5 parakeets and one cockatiel has the mites also. I treated everyone of them with Scalex, but I'm not sure if I should also bring them to the vet to get a dose of Invermectin. 3 of my parakeets were missing feathers by their eyes and above their ceres. Yesterday was the last day for giving them the Scalex treatment. Their ceres, beaks, and feet al look good, but I'm worried that the mites aren't totally gone. I heard that they can come back after a good amount of time. Should I treat all my birds with Invermectin or do you think that the Scalex killed the mites completely??

i would take them to the vet to make sure....and then follow the vets instructions, as long as they are a good avian vet.

Yeah, that's what everybody keeps telling me. I'm gonna definitely going to the vet tomorrow for sure. I don't think he's an avian vet, but I had 3 of my pets including one of my turtles cured by him he's pretty good :)
