AHHH what?!?!?

well, my girlfriend was telling me that parakeets have no red pigment, ever, so when gyr was stretching, and his right wing had red, i was going "wtf? oh no, i hope he isnt bleeding" so, naturally, i grabbed him, got him to extend his wing, and looked under the light, and saw this:

Any ideas? my girlfriend and i are thinking new feathers? Falconers call them blood feathers (although, i think thats the general term!), but they dont look like blood feathers on a raptor??? so i dont know?? are they fret marks (is that a general term also?) on new feathers growing in? why is it bald? i havnt been able to find any feathers besides downy looking ones...?.

looks like skin to me... birds don't have very thick skin, so you can see the muscles underneath through there which gives it a pinkish/purpelish look... you'd be able to tell if it's blood since it would spread to the feathers surrounding the bleeding feather.... keep an eye on it... but overall i think you just found a little bald spot on your birdies wing

keep us posted, please

yep, I second Bee. its skin. its a spot where his feathers are moved away from. looks like the bird was wet, and feathers kinda move on their own when wet, and they preen them back into place.
