Ekkie had serious accident

Rocky had an accident on Thursday afternoon. He was on a play stand in a room that my daughter and I were watching tv. I fell asleep, while my daughter
continued to watch tv. Rocky was playing and eating on the stand. I awoke to a squawk. I looked to the stand and Rocky was gone. I found him on floor near the couch I was on. At first I thought he was ok and just thought he tried to fly, but his wings are clipped. When I went to have him step up he was pretty wobbly, but did step up. He was dazed and his balance was off. I placed him on the floor of his cage and noticed he couldn't stand very well using both legs, that he seemed to be placing most of his weight on his left leg. I watched him for a while and their was an obvious weakness on his right side. We took him to the vet within an 1 1/2 hours, the vet didn't palpate any obvious fractures. They kept him over night and when he didn't appear to improve (or worsen) they did an x-ray which showed no obvious problems. He was put on prednisone twice daily. We picked him up as it was felt he would be less stressed at home. They are leaning toward a neuro problem, such as inflammation on nerves causing loss of coordination/motor loss. Possibly a concussion. He was approximately 6-8 feet away from the stand, between a coffee table and a couch. I feel he got bored and was trying to get to me. I feel horrible. He hadn't tried to leave the stand before.

Today he seems alert and eating. He still isn't standing on his right leg. Any one ever have this happen? The vet is going to call tomorrow for a follow up. Any suggestions?

just keep him low and not very active. It is possible that he did something to a muscle or is sore.
I would inform the vet in the event he wants you to come back in. But I have had had sore birds for a few days after injuries.

I hope he is feeling better soon.

Thanks.
We spoke with the breeder and since we work tomorrow and felt uncomfortable leaving it by itself the breeder offered to watch it. She had something similar happen recently and it took about a month for the bird to return to normal. This makes me feel better as she has a scale and can keep a close eye on his weight. I have a scale on order but it will be at least a week before I get it. He seems to be eating well, but I really can't tell about his weight. She will be able to monitor him through out the day.

Rocky is doing well. It looks like he had a sprain/strain of the right leg. He's starting to use the leg more and more. I woke up to find him on his perch. He kinda just gave me the whats up look.

He is doing well. Just like our non-feathered children, the feathered ones like to scare you too.
