Safety Reminder

We had a close call yesterday and I thought I would pass it on to remind others to keep an eye on whats in their birds' cages....

I always keep a stainless steel loop with different sized Birdie Bagels on them. I don't know how he did it, but Chief managed to get one around his neck. He started freaking out...thank God my husband was home. Travis was holding his feet up so he wouldn't hang from his neck, but then he couldn't manuver his hand around to get the ring off. I walked through the door about 15 seconds later, and rushed to him. Chief calmed down immediately when I walked in the room, and let me pull the ring over his head. He's fine, but it could have been much worse.

I have since removed all toys that I think he could even remotely stick his head in. He's had Birdie Bagels since we got him and he's always loved them, never had a problem with them. I'm not trying to bash them in anyway, but I'm going to pay much better attention to what sizes I give him in the future.

Glad Chief is okay!

I remember a few years back on Thanksgiving (one of the few days besides the summer when I'm home) one of my cockatiels got her foot somehow caught in the cage and was freaking out and dangling by it. There was nothing to catch it on, it just happened. I was glad I was there to keep her from breaking her toes/leg...or worse!

Thanks for sharing this with me. I am new to bird care and will not buy the bagels. I am happy that Chief is fine.
