the old round cages, were not designed like they are today. they did not have adequate reinforcement near the top and the bars could be bent and the bird could get his head out, and sometimes not be able to manouver it back in. I had an orange wing that would do this with her cage, and the cage got thrown out and a new one bought.
cages have improved over the years and the design has moved away from the round to square.
wasnt too long ago, that we didnt have much choice for parrot cages, but because of supply and demand, and trial and error, we have some nice ones out there to choose from now.

I have not heard of the insecurities of being in a round cage.

I feel there's alot we don't know so I don't quickly dismiss anything or laugh it off. Thought I'd mention that the book is "Breaking Bad Habits in Parrots" by Greg Glendell. It's in most popular book stores. Its briefly mentioned in the notes under a picture of a particularly bad looking cage...it's shaped like a ball. Completely! All the way around. Obviously inappropriate and I know the cage discussed here is not like that one. The point being that if cage dimentions CAN be a factor then I personally wouldn't take any chances...just my opinion. Maybe I'm too carefull but there's enough to stress them out in living with us.
