GCC shaking head excessively and reluctant to hold food
Hello,
I have a 2yo GCC female named Rubi. Yesterday afternoon I noticed her shaking her head alot . At first I thought she might have gotton a seed stuck somewhere but she wasn't in any real obvious distress. She is still eating drinking and pooping normal. Today, she was still doing the head shaking, and it seems difficult for her to chew her food. She ate some pellets but seemed to crush them mostly and shake her head vigorusly afterwards. Seeds she was better with and ate quite abit. She took adrink of water and shook her head at first like it bothered her, she then resumed drinking. I gave her a bit of apple and she bit chunks off, and sucked on them and spit most of the peices out. I took her to the evet and they had a semi bird savy vet on duty. Her general exam was fine, She looked in her mouth and there were no lesions sores or plaques indicating a yeast or bacterial infection. She took a scope and looked down in the crop as far as she could and no signs of anything unusual there. She took a swab for cytology of her crop, and that didn't show anyything abnormal. She said she didn't want to start her on any medications yet in case that made things worse. So basically I still have something going on with Rubi but can rule out obviuos infections or injuries. Rubi is ok now but a bit quieter probably from the stress from the vets. She ate some more after we got home but was even more hesitant, but thats because of the swab I think. Overall, shes ok but something is abnormal. Her regular vet isn't in til Tues because of the 3 day weekend. I am at a loss of whats wrong. I thought for sure it might have been an infection. My cockatiel Ziggy had a bacterial infection about a month ago and they do hang out a lot together. Ziggy's symtoms were totally different though. Another thing I thought was that they are molting and grooming alot maybe she got a feather stuck, I doubt it though becasue the vet didn't see anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Becky
