Question Is this normal for a budgie?

Well... I was watching a movie for a while then I went up to put Bullie and Gylfie to sleep. But Gylfie was in the corner of his cage and when I put my hand in he just sat there and let me pat him, He normaly flys around the cage like crazy! So I picked him up to have a look at him and around his mouth looked like yellowish water, Like he had been sick. I don't know this is just not normal for him...Maybe he was just drinking and his yellow feathers just made the water look yellow? I just want to be safe not sorry. He seems really tired but he also looks sick....Am I over reacting? Its just I've never had a sick bird befor and don't know the signs very well. Is he OK??! I'll look at him tomorrow in the morning, Just hope he is ok

Does your budgie have a mirror? Could it possible be that he's just regurgitating his food to 'feed' the mirror, or even to feed the other bird?

He may also have caught a chill if he's been anywhere near a draft lately. Isolation, warmth and weak chamomile tea, plus a millet spray and possibly some egg food might help in this case.

Is there a distinct fishy smell near your budgies mouth? If so then you need to take him to a vet to possibly get some Metronidazole as treatment for Trichomonas.

Good luck!

Anna

I'm very sorry for your loss. It's a good idea to find out why he died (it's called a necropsy, similar to an autopsy for humans) because if he had anything contagious then your other bird might be sick too. In the wild a sick bird would be driven out of the flock, so they do their best to hide the symptoms of illness. By the time you can tell they're sick the problem can be very very serious. At the very least it would be a good idea to take your surviving budgie to the vet for a checkup.

Oh dear, I didn't realize you had another bird. Fingers crossed that it wasn't anything contagious and that it was just something simple like a chill
