baby robin please help

these pair of robins made a nest over my gate that leads into the backyard. a few minutes ago i had forgot about the nest and went through the gate. one of the baby robins got upset and jumped out of the nest. im really concerned. there are other birds that seem too interested in this situation and it doesnt seem like the baby can fly. right now its in my backyard with one of the parents but i am REALLY REALLY concerned and i dont know what to do with myself. is there anything i can do? or should i just leave it and hope it will start flying soon?

I know so many people say not to touch them because of human scent, but... when I was a child I used to always taked the babes out of the nests in the tractor shed to pet them. I would put them back and the parents were fine. Maybe it depends how used to humans they are. I don't know. I would grab a pair of dish goves so the scent doesn't transfer too much and try to put it back in the nest. Poor baby... Good luck.

Robins can't smell that good so if you put it back in the nest the parents will take care of it still.

Here are a few websites.

What To Do When You Find a Baby Bird

Caring for Baby Birds

If you havn't already done anything then stop! Think about it. If the bird is mostly feathered leave it alone. It probably jumped out b/c it's been thinking about it for a few days. It may be a bit early, but if you put it back in at this stage it will just jump out again. Don't draw attention to it.

The old saying that momma will not feed a bird if it smells humans on it is poppycock, but don't draw attention to the baby. A good rule of thumb is, if you try to pick up the bird and it moves away from you, leave it alone. At this age it's on it's own. Every bird you've everseen jumped out of the nest before it could really fly with any control. It's normal for a baby robin to sit in a yard with mom and dad flying around trying to feed it.

If it's not fully feathered, if it doesn't try to hop away from you, then yes, put it back in the nes and leave it alone.
