My parakeet has a brown spot on his beak

I noticed a spot on BB's beak a couple of days ago and thought maybe it was something tht was stuck on it and he would rub it off. this morning my hubby was able to hold him while I looked at it and it is IN his beak! Is this something common or is there a known cause tht I can remedy at home? I realize I can only take responses as suggetions and I will get him to the bird doc tomorrow.

Thanks,
toots

Beak discoloration - UPDATE

UPDATE I called my avian vet and described the brown discoloration (formerly called spot) and the vet said it was a "freckle". As long as it was not "raised" on the beak - not to worry.... I am still going to take BB for a checkup in the next week because I'll just feel better.....I was going to say because she would actually see it up close and personal...but I'll just feel better period......

Question Just in case!!

I wouldn't take any chances. Try calling your veterinarian just to be safe!
