well this is my idea i just want to no if its safe for a cockatiel. i want to use a maple tree branch and make a play stand for a cockatiel. im going to take off all the little branches, leaves and bark. then i was going to let it dry in the sun until it is 100% dry. then im going to sand it and assemble it. do u think this is safe for a cockatiel or is the maple harmful to the cockatiel. thank you so much for the help.

This site appears quite good with regards to different woods and their toxicity:
Wood / Trees / Bushes Considered Safe for Birds IT would appear that maple is just fine....but avoid red maple unless the bark has been removed. I've never cleaned my wood perches quite as much she suggests but I guess it can't hurt to be safe. My vet just said to cut 'em off and bring 'em in so I guess using your own discretion is probably best. |
