I use apple cider vinegar. 1tbs to 1 quart of water. It works like a charm.

I really liked AviTech's Aviclean. Right now I am using a different product and I don't like it half as much.

I use "Poop Off" to get rid of the mess really quick. Have used it for over a year now with no problems. It's bird safe, detergent free and works like majic. The only thing the lable says is not to get it in the birds water or food for obvious reasons. To dissinfect I use a vinegar and water solution. Although I may just start to mix them and have a one shot cleaner. Hmm.

If you are using vinegar, why does it half to be dry?

Bird Cleaner

Hi: I use Pet Focus which is a cleaner and safe disinfectant for birds. I have been using this product for years and had my avian veterinarian approve it before starting. It comes in a concentrate and can be found priced from $10 - $15 a quart. One quart makes up many spray bottles of cleaner. I spray in on, let it sit for about 3 minutes and wipe it off with a clean wet rag. Smells good too....Deb

I use apple cider vinegar to clean as well (mixed with water). I don't rinse it or let it dry out either. I guess I don't understand the point, when my bird gets acv in his watter bowl every day. He likes to chase the sponge around when I clean too.

For the carpet, couch, or really tough dried on places I use poop off. Love it too.

Using white vinegar to clean cage

I use white vinegar to clean every part of my birds cage. I use a spray bottle with about 1/5 vinegar and 4/5 water. I also soak paper towels in this mixture for problem areas. Although I wipe the cage down after clearning, vinegar is not harmful to birds and the very small amount that may be left on the cage won't hurt them

By the way, I use white vinegar to clean almost EVERYTHING in my home. It is just as good as commercial detergents without all the chemicals. Its cheap, safe...what more could you ask for!

Seriously! The cheapest, safetest product I've found that eats the poop right off and is non-toxic? White Vinegar. It's a natural disinfectant. Spray it on, leave for a minute and it rinses right off.

In between scrubbing down, I wipe off the floor of the cage (and whatever else needs wiped down) with non-toxic anti-bacterial wipes

I appreciate all the tips and suggestions, I think for now Im gonna go with the vinager. White vinager smells gross to me, but if it gets the job done, then thats all that counts.

Guess Im going to the grocery store today LOL

We wheel the cages out the patio door and use a power washer on them. I have heard that the steam cleaners work well to. I disinfect with V-18 in a spray bottle after power washing. Let is set for about 10 minuets and then rinse. Wheel the cages back in the house when dry and Whaa-Laaa, we are done with no real sweat or scrubbing! This works well on the stainless steel and powder coated cages alike.

Stubbron dried dirt on grates is dealt with by placing old bath towels on them, soaking with hose and let set for an hour in the sun. When you pick up the towels (and toss in the washer) the dried on food and droppings are soft enough to hose off with a high pressure nozzle or the power washer.

Bird toys go through the dish washer as needed. Just shut off the dry cycle and remove and let dry on their own.
