Lead Crystal?

I need some advice. I have a cabinet that sits next to my little Hahns Macaws cage. One side of it is glass enclosed with a door to open and close with shelves inside. I have a couple of lead crystal vases and nick-nacks I was thinking of putting inside. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you think that it would be to close to Dewey to cause him harm? I am really on the fence with this one... any advice would be more than appreciated. Thanks

Kelly,

There should be no problem with just having lead crystal close to your bird.

The potential problem comes from liquids (spirits, fortified wine, acidic fruit juices) stored in lead glass and then consumed -- the liquid can possibly leach out some of the lead.

Lead Crystal

I am not sure what you are worried about, the lead crystal or the cabinet but you do not have to worry about either. Lead is only harmful if they come in contact with it and chew on it. I have never heard of any problems coming from lead crystal. I have a whole cabinet of it right near my birds and have never had any problems. I don't think I would worry about this.....Deb
