Disinfecting cage

Just bought a used cage. What is the best way to disinfect it to make sure it is safe for my birdies? I was going to use a 1:10 bleach solution. Would this be sufficient?

If you can stand the smell, good old vinegar (white or apple cider) does the job too! Bleach makes me nervous. I'm not a fan of the fumes and I worry about the birds ingesting any of the residue. Don't have to worry about that with vinegar. Other people on here also like using GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) since it's nontoxic to birds like vinegar, but without the smell. I'm told you find it at a health food store.

I use Vanodine, and have since the early 90's with no problems.

I use white vinegar too... I'm not a fan of the man-made stuff. Leave the cage to dry in the sun afterwards- this'll finish off any germs as well.

I use Oxine. It's kinda expensive but my birds are worth it. Anyone else using it?

I use PetFocus for my birds but in such a case I would probably use the bleach solution and let it sun/air dry completely, initially.

You can purchase GSE from The Vitamin Shoppe.

I am about to go look up Vanodine Lisa. I've not ever heard of it.
