Smile news papers as a poo catcher

Can we use news papers to catch poo at the bottom of the cage? I was told that the ink has chemicals in it and when urine hits the ink it lets off an odar or amonia (did I spell that right)?
its down to three days now before my baby comes home and I have to make sure I dont hurt him.

I use newspaper and have never heard that. I know that colored newspaper ink is not good for them to chew on but the black ink is generally soy based so they can chew on that. I only use colored ink in the cages that have grates or in Monty's cage since I know he's not going to chew the paper. Everyone else is black and white only.

I did make a doctor apt. for him today. as he has to be checked within 72 hours of receipt so he will go in on monday. I wonder will I get any information from the avian vet. Do they usually pass out information like that or go over breifly with you does and donts?

I believe now the newspaper's are made with either soy ink or an organic pigment.

Here is an intereseting article that has some information on newspapers and the ink that is used. Newspapers and the Environment - Newspaper Association of America: Advancing Newspaper Media for the 21st Century
