I received the test results today, It said that Eyva's test for Pdd was Positive. Before I just totally lose my mud, can someone give me any good or perhaps not life ending prognosis?
They want to do a crop biopsy but right now Eyva's weight is down to 297 and I refuse to even attempt it until we get her weight up. I have been doing as much research as possible but my mind is spinning. The results are signed off on by Dr. Ian Tizzard which is the foremost researcher in PDD at Texas A&M. at the Schubot Center. I will be making a call monday if I retain my sanity that long. The store that I purchased her at said they will replace her now if I want or if I choose not to do it now then when she passes they will replace her. I already have $1000 into her in vet bills in the last 2 weeks and my business being what it is is getting hit hard by the economy, I cant pay anymore vet bills for a while, I havnt even paid the utilitiy bills yet at the shop lol I cant see putting so much more into vet bills that I dont have, and not treating her is even worse..... omg Sorry I am rambling my brain is spinning... I love this little birds so much already and I just dont know what to do :( |

Positive PDD
OK, I know your freaking, but calm down. I have a suggestion but it concerns going to another board to someone who is going through the same thing as you. The board is ****************. Regester as a guest if you wish. Go to to the specific breeds under Amazons. There are 2 threads there near the top. One is Wasabi has PDD and the other is The test results are in. She went to two different labs and got opposite results. She spoke to a specialist who has developed a new test. I think you will get alot of info from there and also talking to her. Her name is Birdmom. Tell her Judy sent you. I hope everything works out. Email me for board title. kittydog211@hotmail.com

I am very sorry to hear what you may be dealing with . Like Jan said, breath.
ABV positive is not definite yes of PDD if that is what they used to determine it. I suggest you visit Stoppdd.org and talk with people who know the ins and outs and take any info off any board with a grain of salt, as much of it will only upset you more. As far as returning and taking another, there is a risk that all the birds there have been exposed, and are either carriers or will come down with it if it is PDD. did you get a guarentee from the place you bought her? if so I would discuss them reimbusting you for her medical bills, past and present. contact Imom.org and United Animal Nations to see if they can help financially at all.

I can offer you up the email to a Homeopath (Avian Only) that is in Maryland. She does phone consults. She has a few patients with PDD that are still alive and thriving. If you want her email address, please PM me and I will get it to you.

If it is PDD, Roudybush has a formula for birds with PDD (prescription must be gotten via avian vet - I faxed in an RX to Roudybush and have them ship it to me directly - although you should also be able to buy it through your a-vet).

Hi
Thank you all for the advice. I have been reading the posts and doing as much research as possible. Eyva is still holding on. The vet gave her Metacam, " just in case" by that I think she means for inflammation. She also has her on Atarax, an antihistamine, in case it is triggered by an allergy and to help with the itching and scraping. and continued the Fluconazole for 28 days. Eyva still had the yeast on her face which is the reason for the meds. The bacterial had cleared up. This week has been up and down for us, when I first started giving her the meds she started having a better appetite and acted perkier. I have been adding Avigain to her food and attempting to handfeed her at least once a day, she will eat 10-15 cc's and refuse any more. I have also been giving her a small amount of Red Palm Oil in the dosage recommended. Yesterday when I got home she was sitting in the bottom of her cage and she started tryingto climb up to her perch. I am not sure if she was down there eating her seed or what, but she had a very difficult time climbing up to her perch, less than 12 inchs above her. It took her several minutes to make the climb and she acts like she doesnt have alot of strength in the legs and doesnt have very good coordination. I counted her stools for the day and altho they looked semi normal there were only 5 stools from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, that tells me she isnt eating much. She was extremely needy yesterday.... wouldnt let me get more than 3 ft from her without her throwing a huge fit and hollering for me. Today was the same with the food, not really interested in it, even when I go ahead and let her have all the seed she wants ( her fav is pumpkin) she just kind of nibbled at it, she normally wolfs it down if she gets a chance. her weight has been bouncing between 308 and 313 weighing in first thing in the morning after her morning Doody. This evening I weighed her right before bed because she seemed lighter and not eating well and she is only 302. She doesnt have any room to negotiate with the weight loss. She was diagnosed with Avian Boran Virus so I have been reading up on that. The shop where I bought her of course was told about all of this from day 1. My sister had also purchased a bird ( Amazon) from this store on the payment plan. My sister did not have the 500.00 to run all the tests when she picked her bird up last saturday but she did do the well bird visit and everything was ok, no blood work tho. This store has a no return or exchange clause so my sister had no choice but to take the bird, even tho mine tested positive. At this store, if you do not finish paying the bird off in the allotted time, you forfeit the deposit and any money you have paid on it. They also do not pay any vet bills what so ever and do not give cash refunds. If I were to lose Eyva all I could do is get another gray and have it tested by them ( at my expense) before I brought the bird home. When I talked with her she did offer to take Eyva back and replace her with another. But my thoughts are like everyone elses, what are the chances that the others are infected? I am already over 1000.00 in vet bills, she said they do not reimburse vet bills and never recommend that a person put out large amounts of money for an ill bird under warranty. So what am I supposed to do.. let her be sick and die? Thats at the minimum neglect, at the worst murder. The way the warranty reads I have to notify the shop of illness before giving the bird any meds... well that wasnt possible, I had a very sick bird. I have noticed a type of pattern emerging. She will eat well with a good appetite for a couple of days, then go off her food for a few days then start over again. I dont know if that is significant but it sure is hard on her weight. OUCH! I am rambling. Sorry the post was so long. needed to vent. As long as Eyva is willing to fight I will help her fight but at what point do I say enough is enough? I surely cannot put out more in vet bills right now. I dont know what to do to encourage her to eat more. I am doing everything possible and offering her everything she could want. I need to cut the seed back but I am afraid to restrict anything. Thanks for listening Therese and Eyva |
