Squinting

Hi, my bird, Rocky is squinting a lot lately. Before, he had just been blinking but now he squints or closes his eyes as long as nothing interesting is happening. I read that this can be a sign of illness when accompanied with other symptoms, but that is his only symptom. His droppings look fine, his feathers are preened, when he eats he keeps his eyes wide open and stares at me (He's not tame, so He's cautious)

Nothing has changed in his diet or habitat (except I accidentally switched which sides his food and water bowl are), and his behaviour is the same as ever (except that he isn't as puffed up and relaxed as usual, likely because he's molting)

The poor thing lost his mate, Chichi, in early May. She died of old age as far as I could tell (she wasn't that old, but she had had a very stressful life) and I was just wondering what I should do for Rocky. His cage is too big for travel, and it seems that my parents through away the smaller cage we had had.

Any advice?

He could have gotten something stuck in it or scratched it and it is irritated or he could have an eye infection. I would bring Rocky to the vets for sure to see what is going on. If he has an eye infection it will clear up with drops.
It could be nothing or it could be something but I would rather not risk it and take him in.
