Exposed glue on toy : Stick Staxs

Hi folks

Today I picked up a toy at PETCO called stick staxs. When I got home and was ready to hook it up I noticed the glue or adhesive they used to bind the sticks together. Is this dangerous if my birds swallow it? It's a clear adhesive.

Also I noticed for the second time the same cage I complained about about a month ago was still not cleaned and it had bird fecies in the same spot and little flies. It's absolutely disgusting.Should I call the ASPCA? I mean if PETCO can't properly maintain their cages then why sell birds??

I don’t know if the glue is safe, I would not think so but I honestly don’t know.

ABSOLUTLEY call the ASPCA. Pet Stores should not be kept like that. I have a place around me that was absolutely disgusting, filthy water and food bowls, horrendous smell, black fly’s, no food or water. I called the ASPCA five times on them, finally I contacted someone above the ASPCA and now they are spotless. I will never ever buy something from them but go there from time to time to make sure things are kept up.

You should not go into a store and leave sickened by filth. It’s not right and it’s not fair to do that to people who love animals. It was so bad one time I sat in my car and cried. All the animals were sick and just laying at the bottom of the cage depressed. It broke my heart so bad.

So go for it, call, do something about it. It’s not fair to let people see those conditions.

Regarding the glue used I would contact the manufacturer for the name of it and google to see if it is safe for birds. I won't just believe a manufacturer saying something is.

OH that is so disgusting, call the ASPCA for sure. That is a public place where people can see how you are maintaining things. I was at PetSmart last night and the lady was cleaning all the cages and talking to all the birds and even had the jenday on her shoulder making kissy noises. Every time I go there they cages are in awesome shape and there is food & water and toys for all the birds. Im surprised at Petco, than again, the one in my area isnt as well maintained as Petsmart. Thats really too bad, definitely keep us posted on the situation.

As far as the toy & the glue, call the manufacturer. Most glues used on bird toys SHOULD be non-toxic considering the birds are probably going to be chomping on it but ya never know.

I would definetly call the ASPCA. I have gone into a store that kept their birds in a filthy condition, I asked to have the manager come speak with me and very very loudly expressed my feelings. There were people standing around. He immediately called a few of his people and by the time I left that store (I was there for fish food) those kids were moving birds around and cleaning. I did ask what he was using and he said it was vinegar and water which I could smell. Anyway, I went back the next week to see that condition and it was much much better and the birds had toys. I also called the district office and sent an email.

Thanks all for your input. I'm just gonna return the toy and take no chances and while I'm there I will check up to see if they cleaned the cages.
