Chlamydiosis / Psittacosis - Please help
Hello everyone!
I have a cockatiel that was recently diagnosed with chlamydiosis. She is doing incredibly better now and on her antibiotics :D I however, have also been diagnosed with chlamydiosis / psittacosis. I am not feeling well at all but on antibiotics. My question is: Can I transmit the chlamydiosis from myself to other birds and if so how is it transmitted? I would really like to know and I can not find any info on it online or from the vet or from my doctor. I have several birdies that live in a separate house with my husband right now. I am usually the person to take care of the budgies as he is not as experienced with them but I don't want to go over there and make the babies sick! But they need to be tended to as far as their cage and whatnot. And they wont go back in the cage for him :P Just for me. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Lori |

I would definitely err on the side of caution and leave your birds where they are and away from you, despite the difficulties. If no one can say for sure that you cannot transmit the disease to your birds, then you have to assume that it is possible.
