ZINC-PLATED? What?

Okay, I'm very novice bird-keeper, but I must ask something. Zinc is bad for birds, poisoning and so forth. But this?

it's a sad fact that a high percentage of toys/accessories for birds contain zinc, the most common offender being the chain/quick links used to hang toys.it can also be found in cages, bowls, washers, nuts and bolts. Some companies, like the one I recommended in your toy thread,ONLY use stainless steel chain and quick links.I buy my SS washers, nuts and bolts for perches etc at a local hardware store.

(I'm dreaming of the toys from that store; I don't think the girls would like the large £15 ball, but then again, Bonnie would perhaps claim it as a hidey-hole, she's never had an opportunity to have a 'den' so I don't know how she'd react to one being given to her)

Well, I've done more Googlin' to find a travel cage for the pair and apparently this cage is actually either chrome or stainless steel. If this is true (and apparently it has a name) then WHY say it's 'Zinc plated'? You'll panic people that know zinc and leave those that don't in the dark

(I don't know about the washers on the perches of the birds, but they don't bother with the washers or the toys; they're too busy trying to eat all their seed or their veg)

The wire on mineral bells, seed bells, cuttlebones is also the same most places. We have to be very careful if our birds are chewers.
