4 month cockatoo

Pearl is a 4 month old cockatoo, that I just bought a few days ago.

She is not weaned, and I was told to do 1 handfeeding a day. The rest of the time she is suppose to be eating on her own. Well, the handfeeding is going very well. But she eats very little of all else that has been offered.

I'm concerned if shes getting enough food. Also, I never see her drink water.

So far she has been offered fruit pellets. I grind them up in the blender (leaving it a bit lumpy) and add warm water. She will pick at this a bit.
I have also offered fresh fruits, grapes, apples, banana, and pear. She will just pick a tiny bit of it.

Should I up her hand feeding to 2x a day?

Thank you in advance for our help.

is pearl a too or tiel?

you should have a scale to weigh her daily to make sure she is not loosing weight. If she is, the breeder needs to be contacted, and she needs to go back to be properly weaned.

Peas seem to get alot of birds eating tho they have little nutritional value. Corn is another. You wont often see a bird drink water....especially if they are in a new surrounding.
Try the pellets without blending them. They like to crunch things. that teaches them to eat.

I would definately add another handfeeding. try to get the bird to eat the pelletsfrom your hand too. Starving the bird wont make it weaned quicker it will just make it sick.

My mistake. Pearl us a cockatoo.
Thank you for the quick replies. I would have responded sooner, but we are having problems with our server.
We have started 2 feedings a day. And of course will continue to offer fresh fruit and veggies, along with the pellets.
Will be buying a scale soon, to monitor weight.

How old (generally speaking) are u2's before they are fully weaned?
