Yesterday he was ok, playing and making a lot of noise (i was at work). My mother was home. She left the cage open for him and went out for an hour or two (he never went too far from his cage ). When she got back he was just sitting on the barbecue making no noise, not moving much and a bit puffed up. I put him on my shoulder and he started moving round and licking me and i thought it was nothing. I didnt think he was sick (thought it was just a bird thing, maybe he was angry or something) untill late last night.
The diet sounds good but remember lories need a wet nectar mix as well as a dry mix. Vegetables as well as fruits should be offered.
Birds should never be left out unsupervised. They can get into all sorts of dangers. As he was found on the barbecue, for instance, he could have licked it and gotten metal poisoning or something. He could have fallen and caused internal injuries, been bitten by a spider, egg bound (if female) etc. If they are supervised when they are out, then these can be prevented. If we are not supervising, there is no way to know, or to fix things that we know are potentially endangering their lives. I'm sorry this happened, it is always such a shock for them to suddenly go.

It is a shock and it was wrong for it to be unsupervised but im going to make sure next lorikeet I get is going to be much more looked after. This was my first lorikeet so I wasnt the best at handling/looking after it.

Also thanks for trying to help :)

My first lorikeets life came to a sudden and tragic end too. I can tell your second will be well looked after and spoiled. I hope it brings you as much joy as my second lorikeet, Ashling, does! If you have any questions or just want to talk lorikeets, feel free to pm me or post in the lori section!
