Does my bird have the flu?

Ok so I need some help and am a bit worried. I have a 2 year old rainbow lorikeet and today suddenly he has not made a sound and hasnt come out of his cage and doesnt want to come out of his cage.

Normally he will do anything to come out and he is very very active. Hes body/wings look a bit puffed up, i havent seen him sneeze yet (he sneezes but only like once or twice a day) and Hes eating normally.

Does he have the flu? or is it something else.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Vet visit. Birds hide their illness to the point where they start to feel miserable. How are his poops? It is good he is eating.

Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. Do you have other birds? If so you might want to have an autopsy done to make sure it is nothing contagious. The sad thing is, when birds become ill, we really don't find out until it's sometimes to late. It's not your fault. So please no that. I will keep you in my prayers. Fly free little bird, fly free!

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard when these things happen suddenly. Watch any other birds closely as Greycloud advised. If you do have other birds, remove the cage and anything that came in contact with the bird from your bird room. I wish you better days ahead. You tried to do what was right, sometimes there is just not enough time to help. You are in my prayers.

What was the diet of your old lorikeet? Can you tell us anything about him?

gosh, i'm so sorry to hear this. it's always really sad to hear of a loss on this forum, especially when there are very few signs of illness, which is often the case with our birds... may he finally fly free and be at peace. will keep him in my prayers tonight.

just wanted to mention that if you're going to be getting a new Lorikeet soon and plan on using all of the things you used with you deceased bird, please thoroughly disinfect EVERYTHING before you allow the new bird to come in contact with the stuff since disease can be transferred otherwise. if you need to know how to do this, just search the forums, or message me and i would be happy to tell you.

Mainly fruits and dry mix but he didnt really like any other fruit besides apples. He loved apples with a passion.

Yesterday he was ok, playing and making a lot of noise (i was at work). My mother was home. She left the cage open for him and went out for an hour or two (he never went too far from his cage ). When she got back he was just sitting on the barbecue making no noise, not moving much and a bit puffed up. I put him on my shoulder and he started moving round and licking me and i thought it was nothing. I didnt think he was sick (thought it was just a bird thing, maybe he was angry or something) untill late last night.
