Bird Lighting

We have just completed the paint job on the bird's room (sponging three different colors of green) and we're in the process of putting in the oak flooring (easier clean-up). My next question for folks on the board: I need to get a few lamps with full spectrum lighting and enough wattage to make them wirthwhile and I'm not seeing any full spectrum stuff out there for less than say, $50 or so. Has anyone out there found an alternative to spending $129 or so on a lamp with full spectrum lighting? I can find the corkscrew bulbs for roughly 16-20 bucks each, but I was wondering, can those simply be put into a regular run of the mill lamp or does the whole thing need to be purchased as an expensive set? I have two hooks that were supposed to be used as lighting supports (way back in the dim and distant 70's) in the corner; would it be feasable to get a clear glass hanging lamp fixture, place the full spectrum bulb into it and use that as the lighting for the entire room?
