Trying to Help a Sad Macaw

Hello!

We are trying to better the life of a Scarlet Macaw who out of depression has plucked out a good amount of her feathers. I have been told I cannot call this a rescue since she is in a shop. I would like to get her out of this situation though, and if you could either help, or find someone in the Southern California area who is willing to take on a problemed Scarlet, I would appreciate the effort. Below is her webpage.

Thank you!

Joanell

I would really like to stress that she is not being abused. I am in that store every day and all of the birds are moved, given a variety of food and toys, are handled and removed from their cages, and in a very clean environment. She has just been at the store too long and is lonely and has gotten so "picky" that people are afraid to handle her.

We have managed to calm her down and she seems happier with us, and she lets us handle her to a certain extent. With her any progress is good.

Also, if I was unhappy with the store, the ASPCA or Local Animal Control would have already received a call. I recently was successful in having a local bird store closed. The abuse was unmentionable and conditions filthy.

They want her to have a good home. These people are very helpful and kind. Besides, they would have no choice. I've already made the commitment to buy her. I don't understand what you mean by fishy.

if the people at the petstore are so nice and the bird is not being abused then why don't you just educate them on the proper cage size...toys.. etc.????.....i mean.....call me crazy.....but i worked hard to get and keep my birds....yah....one was plucked too.....but i sure didn't ask others to pay for it.....i'm sure there are other bird lovers out there.....especially if you post something about this bird around your area....with the funds to buy her...btw...the price is very reasonable....i just don't get why you want us to outfit your house with an aviary....buy you a bird and a cage.....hell....i would love to have an aviary too.....!!!!

sorry if i sound blunt.....im sure your intentions are swell....but "earn" the money.....it seems to make me appreciate the things i have incredibly......especially my feathered ones.....

/jmho....

p.s.....again....what was the name and # of that petstore....?

I'm doing this for the bird, not me. I want to get her home now, not keep her in the store for 3 months while I save up the money. What I put on the page is what I would ideally like for her. All of my animals have the best.

I am doing a good thing. I took the initiave, am taking the ridicule, and I want to help her. If you don't want any part of it, or are too jaded to realize that this is to help a living creature, then don't be a part of it.

Please do not knock me for trying to help in my small way.

Besides, if people gave $1.00 it would help without breaking anybody. I'm not asking for you to buy me anything. Thankfully not everyone feels like you, and I am getting the help I need.

Well said, if you really want Katsina make a payment plan with the petstore. If they are serious about wanting a good home for her they shouldn't have problem allowing you to pay so much per week for her and you visit her all the time anyway.

Most of us "kill" ourselves to provide for our fids, and hell I would love to have the money to build and outfit an aviary, but that a luxury that we can't afford, and it isn't a necessity to a happy bird, though it helps. Buy her a large cage and toys and then save up money for the aviary. I wouldn't expect anyone to pay for our things for our pets, we got them and it is our job to provide for them.

And yes I believe you are doing this for the right reasons, I won't go to pet stores because of situations like this one. I hope it all works out for you.

I am just trying to help.

This is how you get things done when the situation is larger then yourself.

I'm sorry you all don't respect it, but it won't stop me from trying.
