Mitred (?) conure in SW Florida

Here is my newest rescue. Willie is a mitred conure ( we think) Who is 6-7 years old. He will be avalible for adoption soon.

Willie has spent a good amount of time in the dark under a table because there is a new baby in the house. On top of that he is unclipped and I don't think he has been out of his cage in at least a year. At this point he is very very angry and bites very hard. I am going to work with him though.
That is why he is not ready to be adopted right now. I need some time to work with him and evaluate him.

If you are interested PM me. Shipping? maybe to the right person.
I have to know this bird will be safe and well cared for.
Lynda

Lynda - You have such a loving and giving heart! Thank you, and others like yourself, who take the time to care for these beautiful and timid creatures, and show them that all of us humans aren't so bad. In the hours and days and even months that you may work with these babies you help them see that they can be loved and love back. That is an enormous thing you are doing - a job I know not many would have the patience for. Keep it up, and keep us posted on this precious little conure.

Thanks everyone for the support. I will keep you updated on how Willie is doing.
He is enjoying the light. Poor guy has not seen the sun in such a long time.

I don't need thanks or recognition. It has been five years since my love for parrots really blossomed. It has been the happiest five years of my life. These rescues make me feel better about myself beileve it or not. I feel like I have a true purpose. Up until this point though I kept my rescues.
Now I must rehome those I take in. Either that or win the lottery LOL

Bless you!

Bless you.
You are surely a wonder to this sweetie.
I do sugar glider rescue and it takes time and patience, too.
Whenever Willie is ready...please keep me in mind...if not, I know you will find him the best forever home for him.

Have a blessed day.

Sugar gliders are neat. Someone just offered me one recently but I have alot on my hands to start taking in furry things also. I will keep you in mind though I have to constantly remind my son and hubby Willie is not meant to stay. They are falling in love with him.

Willie is a very large cherry headed conure. From all the pictures I have gone through he is definetly not a mitred. He is huge though. I have never seen a cherry head so large. The ones I have seen are nanday and bluecrown size. Willie has to be a full seventeen inches long.

He is getting sweeter also. He now sticks his beak out and makes kissing sounds. I give him little kisses on top of his beak but he is still very handshy. He was ostracized for yelling but I have not heard anything but a little whining sound in the six days he has been here. A scream would be nice just so I know he is ok LOL Quiet conures worry me.

Indeed he is a cherry head! Possible though that he might be a hybrid between cherry and mitred, if he is so large! Noel is only 11 inches, short by atleast 2 inches. Mitreds are usually 15-16 inches, so am curious about Willies exact length!

Even though I own my own cherry head conure, I am often jealous when I see other people with one of these x-mas birds! I am at the moment trying to save up money, though am not exactly what for sure (possibly an aviary), and still dreaming about the day I'll be able to be owned by two of these green and red birds!

Monica,
If I have any cherry head rescues come spring i could probably have one brought right to you LOL. Right now including Willie I know two cherry heads looking for homes.
My dad lives in Reno and drives down here every spring. Last time he brought a senegal rescue to Georgia for me. I know he would bring a rescue back to Reno for me.

Once I can handle Willie properly I will measure him and let you know. I to am curious over how big he is.
