One thing Id suggest if its doable is get the bird microchipped with YOUR info. That would be especially important if it already has a chip in it. Definately save allpm etcbut do your best to ignore the person.

I just skimmed this story... you wouldn't by chance be talking about the woman from Medina OH would you?

You're not the only one she's harrassing... and I don't know where you are on this thing, but it might be worth putting out ads on different boards looking for others who have done "business" with her... yeah she's SELLING birds that are supposedly from her mothers rescue... and she does do it on Petfinder.

Good luck.

Julie

if you dont have one already, you might wanna think about getting a shotgun or something for some protection just in case she DOES show up at your house. im sure she wont wanna be there when you greet her at the front door with the shotgun :) she wont be able to get you in trouble anyway.....at least if your laws are anything like texas laws. we one time brought a butcher knife to answer the front door, some guy was trying to solicit money or something, supposedly he was from some newspaper or something and he wouldnt show us any ID or nothing, and he seemed really threatening. it was a while back, i forgot exactly what he was trying to do, but he was bothering us, so we met him out front with the knife and he called the cops on us, haha. they came over and asked us what was giong on, and they asked a few of the neighbors, and they ended up running that guy outta the neighborhood cause he was bothering everyone and couldnt show any type of proper ID or anything, and of course we didnt get ticketed or anything :)

This is for you Michelle, I know who you are talking about because I have also adopted 2 macaws from her mother's rescue organization several years ago when her Mother was alive. I heard she (Daughter) was doing some really shoddy things with the larger birds ppl relinquished to her mothers rescue not knowing she had passed away. And she is reselling them at a profit that is not going to the rescue itself because the rescue is not in business anymore. Her Mother would roll over in her grave if she knew what her daughter was doing. The daughter doesn't have a leg to stand on here, just don't have any communication with her ever. She is just trying to scare you. What she is doing is illegal and she knows it. I beleive in karma, she will get what's coming to her.

Anyway here's my question. This girl is now threatening to call the previous owners to tell them that the bird is in danger because it's with me. Can she do this? I know she has the name an address of his previous owners but I didn't think rescues could pass on info like this.

I'm going to get an anti-harrassment order tomorrow but I don't think this will stop her.

Any advice? I'm at lose as to what to do.

(I'm not trying to bash anyone, just looking for advice!)
In these types of situations it is not necessary for you to do anything. Its a personal drama and that is it. I would not be concerned that the legal system would even take the time to engage in litigation over such matters. Insofar as the IM's are concerned don't worry about garnering anything other than a "block" of her email address...she wont be able to IM

I like this advise

Do you have a copy of your cancelled check or receipt for the funds you paid her for the bird? If so, I would send her a certified, return receipt letter telling her that you have been advised that she did not have the legal authority to complete the adoption so the papers you signed are null and void. However, You do have the cancelled check you gave her when you purchased the bird and if she continues to harass you, you will sue her for extortion and file charges against her for stalking. Your business with her is concluded and you are putting her on notice not to contact you again.

Obviously, the previous owners relinquished the bird and it was rehomed (sold) to you. I doubt that anyone can take it away from you, at this point. She may have someone that is willing to pay more for it than you did

I love this advise. I like all the coments given in this thread. I would do what is advised here, plus I would not even answer any of her threats or phone calls. I think this girl can get into more trouble all by herself..if she continues harrassing you, than if she just drops it. What she has done is so very illegal, and I believe she has gotten greedy..and wants to get more money out of this pet, which is in obviously good hands.
Good luck..we here are all with you.

Wow

sounds like you are dealing with a real winner. I don't think she would get anywhere by getting you in court, she is probably just trying to scare you into giving the bird back because she can get into trouble with the law for impersonating her mother. You have the adoption papers, so I wouldn't worry about it. She can't prove that you are bad to the bird, all I can say is, save every text, every phone bill where she called and and every letter she wrote you threatening you, if it does go to court, use it all against her. She is clearly unstable.
