possible delima!

Ok my Ex Husband my be moving to Florida and says he probably will give Tess my first CAG that I lost in our divorce 11 years ago to me! She would be about 15 yrs old.

I don't have the room to take her in but would love to have my baby back after all this time... Would she remember me?

The main thing that deters me from taking her is I know she has plucked herself ever since I left and most likely has a very foul vocabulary that I can't have in my home. I don't want my other FIDS learning the F bomb amongst others.. My Ex can't even talk to a baby without swearing so I am pretty sure she does also.

She also has a seed only diet and has been kept in a cage that is to small for her and has had little if any toys in her cage.

I would hate to say no but at the same time I think someone else would be able to give her the time and care she needs.

Any advise that you guys have is much appreciated.

OH if he does move he said it would be in August..

I would suggest maybe a "Trial-Run" to see how it goes. The diet can be changed. The vocabulary can be ignored and may or may not go away. Eleven years ago is a long time so I wouldnt want to comment on if she would remember you or not. I think however if you want to make it work that it seems you have a great amount of experience with Greys to do so. With a change of environment and positive stimulation I think its worth the try. Go For It!

maybe you could take her and if it doesnt work out find someone that you know and would trust to take care of her properly, then at least if you cant keep her then you know she is looked after rather than possibly being sold to a stranger or given to someone who may not look after her.

Grab her while you can. I realize you may not be able to keep her. Space constraints alone may make it impossible but you have a lot more contacts to find her a good home then he does. I can understand you worrying about your other fids picking up the bad language. That is a very real and justifiable concern. On the other hand, there are a lot of people who would find it pretty funny, just check YouTube. I would like to hear that she ends up with someone, if it is not you, who will work with her on her diet and find her a nicer, more appropriate sized cage.

Keep us posted.

Its a tough decision. If I was you ..I would go get her and atleast see the condition she's in. Bring her home and if you think she'd do better w/ someone else. Alteast she has a better chance than staying where she is, not getting the care or help a bird w/ her behavioral problems need. She could die if her plucking is really bad, it could get to a serious point. You could put one of those plastic round thing on her neck. Can't think of the name of it but atleast she couldn' pluck w/ having that on! Vets have them and some stores do too.

Keep us posted :)

I have already decided I will take her and at least try to help change her diet and see if I can do anything with the feather picking.. I am not sure if I am going to keep her but probably will. I have a spare bedroom upstairs that I will probably keep her in at least at first so she is not overwhelmed by the dogs cats and other birds. I also need to save up for a bigger cage but plan on keeping everything including her cage the same for at least the first 2-3 weeks.

He lives in Pittsburgh and I know the vet that I use to take her to down there so I will take her there first before bringing her home.

Now that I have decided to do this I just hope he really goes through with it.. The only reason I lost her in the first place is when I left I didn't take her with me.. I had a 2 hr window to grab and leave the abusive SOB. He kept her for spite only knowing how much it hurt me..

But now 11 years has passed and the anger between us is long gone.

God I hope she does remember me. That would make her life changing experience so much easier for her. I was her chosen one hence the reason she started to pluck..

I have also always just called her a girl but never knew for sure.. Knowing what I do know I think that Tess may be a male. I will DNA her once things settle down with her. That is if he doesnt change his mind..

Chris

I would go get her and try and reverse the damage that has been done. The swearing can be reversed by saying something else.I have quite a few swearing parrots too we just ignore them and say other words. It has helped over the years. If push comes to shove PM me.

Marcia

Good Luck Chris.

You will be okay and I will keep my fingers crossed that he doesn't change his mind. How horrible would that be?
