Plucked Quaker In IL WL Rehab Center Needs Home

I volunteer for Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation in Northern IL:

flintcreekwildlife.org

Recently, a plucked Quaker parrot came into the center. It was accepted in error as a transfer from a local municipal Animal Control office by a staff person who didn't recognize the signs of a self-mutilated companion bird. I suspect it ended up in Animal Control after being surrendered or (worse) *set free* by a frustrated owner.

Flint Creek' Director Dawn Keller tells me that the bird craves attention (which neither rehab' staff nor volunteers are able to provide) but is fearful and sometimes nippy about stepping up. In any case, this incredibly busy and understaffed wildlife rehab' center isn't the right place for a troubled self-mutilating former pet.
The rehab center's purpose and all consuming focus is to care for orphaned, injured or sick wildlife and then return them to the wild. This troubled little Quaker ended up there by mistake and needs to find a good foster or permanent home ASAP.

Can anyone here help? Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated. You can contact me via reply to this post, IM or Email:

Alternatively you may contact Dawn Keller, Director of Flint Creek Wildlife, directly (but she's harder to reach):

Ph: 847-602-0628

EM: info@flintcreekwildlife.org

FYI, Flint Creek's main facility is in Barrington, IL, northwest of Chicago, but they also have a location in downtown Chicago and another in Itasca, IL .

Thank you all.

Deborahc, companion to a BFA for 17.5 years and counting, and unable keep additional birds.

as an owner of a quaker you must get this bird into some type of foster sittuation or adoption sittuation where it will get constant attention . the quaker is not the type of bird to just sit on a cage all day it craves human attention and will demand it if given . the bird will bond with someone anyone who shows it the least bit of attention and care . these birds are very social creatures . some quakers are known to be cage territorial so that when and if he gets a foster home or permanant sittuation you need to let them know to take this bird out of the cage everyday it is important for the birds physce and that they can clean the cage w/o the bird becoming too upset about it . good luck and I wish i was closer i would take that bird in a heartbeat .
