Senegal in Colorado.
It breaks my heart to post this, but it's for the best...
We have a 6 year old Senegal. Her name is Luna. She has not been DNA-sexed, so her gender is just a guess based on her undertail coverts being green and yellow as opposed to just yellow. It all started in college, in 2000, when I took in a rescue Senegal, named Dakar. He had had a long, tough road. I was at least his third owner, and the one I got him from had had him in the same tiny cage for 8 years. After about 3 years, we acquired a baby Senegal, Luna. My intention was for them to be neighbors, but not to force them to be roommates. But, Dakar was instantly smitten with her. As she got bigger, they got to play more and more... eventually they were inseparable. Last year, Dakar passed away. My poor Luna misses him terribly, but its been a year now that he's been gone. Luna really doesn't enjoy being an "only bird". She constantly wants to be held and cuddled and talked to. She is such an angel. She needs either a nearly-constant human companion, or some neighbors to talk to. I can't give her either. I work 50+ hours a week, and my poor husband is terrified of her. (Not her fault, Dakar got him good several times.) Luna, as most other Senegals, is fairly quiet (as far as parrots go). She knows a few words: hello, baby, pretty, Luna. Mostly she mimics sounds though. She will lie on her back in your hands, cuddle under your chin, and give lots of kisses. She eats ZuPreem pellets, fresh fruit and veggies, and anything we are eating. She is in good feather and very healthy. She will come with a very nice cage. It is 32"x23"x56", not including the play gym on top. It is black/silver vein powder coated. She has toys, perches, bowls, food, corn cob bedding, Senegal Parrot Book, and supplies to make additional toys. She also has a nice manzanita portable play gym. She is not afraid of kids or dogs, and even makes kissy noises to lure them over so she can have a better look. Like I said, I love her very much, but she truly deserves to have a companion-bird or human who is home most of the day. If the right person comes along, we will sadly part with her. If not, then we won't. Photos of Luna, cage, etc available on request. |
