Maybe it's just me but it doesn't read "scam" to me... and with any luck, the bird has no behavioral or health problems - although there's no guarantee a bird will act the same in a new situation under different circumstances...

I can understand wanting a rehoming fee.. I can understand meeting the potential adopter...

But wanting to visit the potential adopters home??? ah well that may be just a little overboard..

Maybe for a bird it is a little strange to visit someones house,
but it's common practice with dog adoptions, mostly to check for things like whether they have a fenced in yard, and aren't running fighting rings of course.

Doesn't seem bad to me...

Quote:
I am looking for a good, loving home for my Sun Conure. I recently went through a divorce, I am traveling out of town for work more and more frequently to the point that I feel he is no longer getting the time or attention he deserves. It is very difficult for me to give him up, but I want to keep his best interest in mind.

He is a beautiful, healthy bird with no behavioral problems. I have had him since he was weaned, and he will be 12 this year with an expected lifespan up to 25-30 years. He does not talk but makes lots of different kinds of noises. He has a very charming personality, loves to snuggle and take showers, and is very tame. He is quiet - for a Conure - which does mean that he will screech in the morning and usually after I get home around dinner time. However, he is silent at night after he is covered up for bed.

Included is a very nice powder coated black cage which sits on a wheeled stand, and all his toys, food, and accessories.

I would like to meet his potential adopter as well as visit their home before making a decision. I prefer someone who does not rent, does not smoke in their home, and have no very young children, cats, or dogs. Please write with a short description of yourself and why you'd like to adopt a parrot, any prior bird experience you have, current birds you own, etc. I am asking $250 for a rehoming fee, to insure that potential adopters are serious and ready to make both the time and financial commitment a parrot requires. Before you flag this, keep in mind that this is what most bird shelters charge to adopt as well and I am NOT in the business of selling parrots. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to introducing a special bird to the right person.

Doesn't seem scammy to me, I have to say. Might be the kind of ad I'd write if I had to rehome one of my birds (except of course that Stewie is anything BUT quiet). Most animal shelters require a home visit, so maybe the poster is just taking her queues from them. It might be unusual, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily a scam. Why would you say it's "definitely a hoax"? (or did I miss the part about suddenly moving to Cameroon?)

It doesn't look like a scam to me either. I have done house visits, and I have only rehomed lovebirds!! This weeds out re-sellers, who will buy the bird and sell it for twice the price to someone who doesn't know any better. If you visit the person's home, at least you know where they live, can get an idea if they are genuine and make an informed decision. People can tell you anything they want in your home and its a responsible bird owner's job to vertify the information.
