This is the email I sent him:

Wow, you are asking a lot for your bird. CL is for rehoming your bird, not selling and I would be very surprised if someone actually gave you that much for the bird alone.

I was actually going to ask to see the bird, but not at that price. The cage is not suitable for the bird, no matter how much you paid for it plus I see no toys for this bird to play with. Birds don't do well in round cages and they need lots of toys. So why did you not keep up with his training to be social? Are you tired of your bird and you want to get the money back that you put into your pet? Try Kiiji for SELLING your bird. I hope the bird finds a good home. Like I said, the price is too high otherwise I would consider it.

His response to me was: "thank you dr. phil"

Seems the words that come into mind when hearing his response "SMART ASS!

I would be more concerned on making sure my parrot is going into a good home.

Wow, that's a lot of money for a useless cage! Would have been better spent on a proper cage and oodles of toys. Oh, I forgot, then he wouldn't have the Gucci aspect of saying, "I spent more on my cage than you did, I am a better owner!" What a load of !

Why would someone spend that much on a cage like that in the firstplace? Wow, thats stupid! I feel so bad for that poor bird. I wonder if he would sell him without the cage.

He SHOULD sell the bird without the cage, he'd have a better chance at getting the money he wants from just the cage... maybe someone wants a fancy French cage ('cause the French ones are better, naturally) to decorate their living room, but not the bird, because of course the green and yellow doesn't go with their drapes...

Hopefully he got a few more emails along similar lines... in numbers, maybe they'll seep in.

I agree, that cage would make a lovely decorative piece, maybe even a home for canaries (but I can't really judge the bar space from the photo). It looks like tweety bird's cage from the cartoons :-)

The guy who was rehoming my Henry on CL had originally asked $900, I told him I'm sorry I just could never offer that, and then when time passed and he had no takers, he emailed me back and we bartered, and I got Henry for a very good trade (at least I think so on my end lol). So maybe if you really do want to try to take that poor bird in, you could send an email from a different email address and not let him know it's you. Just ask how muc for the bird alone, say you have a cage already. I know it sucks to have to humble ourselves to scum bags but sometimes it works. I doubt that bird is going anywhere for that price, and if he gets rid of the bird he can put his stupid cage on ebay and reach a greater audience, so it would benefit all parties, especially the poor bird.
