Exclamation Anyone in Ohio for a CAG??

I saw a CAG today that really really needs help. If anyone is able to adopt/rescue this girl.... I don't have the experience she will need. She is 6 years old, was kept in a rabbit cage for years. She hates men, is very afraid, is a HUGE plucker, and I think she's sick. She's been in her 'new' home for five months, where the owner got a male also and planned to breed her. Luckily things haven't worked out. She is in half of a double macaw cage with a couple of toys, but there are rust spots on the cage, and the owner is burning potpourri in the house! There are many children, dogs, cats, and a Sun conure in the home. The woman is afraid to handle her. I think she may be ill. She's not asking much money for her. She really needs help. I don't know if there's someone here who could help her, but I'm also going to be contacting all the rescues in the area I can find. This poor girl is terrified!! The lady said she'd been to the vet and checked out OK, but I don't know. She was in poor feather (what was left anyway). She was standing there ripping out feathers as I was talking to her!

Very sad case.... thanks for reading. If you PM me, I will give you any additional info you want. This is a VERY hard luck case, and it's unfortunate that she's spent her entire life with people who just don't know how to take care of her properly or what she needs.

I'm allergic to cags. That's very sad. Have you tried contacting Lori D or Tracey? They would probably kill me for suggesting them but they both have done well helping some cags in need. Although, I don't think either would want to pay for her. I could be wrong.
Have you tried http://birds.meetup.com/125/ aka Central Ohio Friends of a Feather? They are very nice ladies. I met Vickie a couple months ago. We were both buying toys at a pet store that was closing. They are recommended by Dr. Mohan.
Is this the bird? http://www.hoobly.com/0/0/1010524.html

That is so sad. We actually were looking for one but not for MANY years, once we were informed enough to take one. And being our first bird I dont know if we could take in someone with such a history. I have small children. I hope you or someone can find her a good home.

OMG.. yes, that's the bird!! She already sold the male she had, and she says she's selling the double macaw cage she had them in. She wasn't able to touch the bird while I was there, and the poor thing was shaking and plucking the whole time I was there! They do have a sun conure, but they handle that one. I can't believe she's wanting another bird! She doesn't know anything about this grey...at least not from our discussions. She said she would take $350, but I think the bird is sick...so vet bills would be very likely (not just a well check up). I don't know how (or if) she bathes, since she can't handle the bird. She told me she was 'sweet', but she's not able to be handled. Once over a week ago she did get her to step up. I don't have the room to do a 'really good' quarantine, and she'd need it. She's exposed to kids, cats, dogs, etc...plus other birds.

She's in Washington Courthouse. I don't have the experience to deal with this kind of thing...and at this point (looking at the other ad) I wouldn't pay for her, either! No birds should be added there...not until they learn about them! Sorry about repeat info...I also don't have an 'open' cage..but I'm thinking she'd need heavy quarantine..and someone with grey experience! I'm hoping she'll do the right thing and give it to a rescue..but my faith in man is shaken at them moment.

She said that, too...but today said she hasn't been able to pick her up in over a week. She is a member of COAF...something. In April, she didn't have it...so I don't know how long she's had it, but not the five months I was told I guess.

Someone please notify me if this little fella does not find a qualified person to take care of her in her area. I would hope that there would be a qualified rescue in the area but money is tight and rescue groups cannot usually afford to pay fees for birds. We would be happy to help as a last resort (because we are so far away) but we would have to raise funds to ransome the bird.

It is fairly typical for greys to pull feathers right in front of people as if to say "hey, look what I can do" and it is very sad to watch. I'm glad that this bird will not be used as a breeder after all. It sounds like she has great potential and just needs some understanding.
