A coworker sent me a link for two lovebirds that needed a home and the floodgates were opened - that stopped real quick. I just cant do that to myself. Dont torture yourself by looking, as much as we all want to help every animal out there, its just not possible.

I sometimes send the people a message explaining that they should really be more concerned about finding a good home, because parrots can live for decades and need a committed owner, and that I think they deter possible adequate homes with such a steep and ridiculous price. I don't care if only like 1 in ten people take my message seriously and actually find a good home for their bird instead of seeing dollar signs.. I should just stay off those sites too, because it irks me a lot to see so many birds being sold for so much more than they should be.

What sucks is you can message a person, and tell them that you cook for your birds, play with them, love them, that they are your children. But if someone who knows nothing about birds has cash in hand they will give them thier "baby" that they can no longer keep. If anything happened and I had to rehome, god forbid, I'd rather give a bird to someone who knows about them, rather than get any money. Currently, we are working on a Quaker, who was given to a lady that wont spend anytime with him, or feed him or give him water. She wants a bunch of money. He is a decoration in her house. He is so very smart...is it wrong to just give them the fee for the sake of the bird?

I see it a lot with dogs also. Purebred with no papers...with a re-homing fee of course. I think people look for mutts they can try to pass off for a profit.

There is also a woman that gets free birds and sells whatever she can in Fairfax county, Springfield Va. She is the best conartist I have come across. Low life in my eyes!
We have purchased many birds and turned around a re homed for free, we have never breed, and always put birds well being above any money amount! And those we have sdopted and assured a forever home stay with us, not shuffled off or sold off. I have been taken advantage of, lied to but wont ever put a price on any living thing! |

When I knew I was ready to bring a third Grey into my life, this time an older bird, I just put feelers out with the breeder of my two young Greys and a couple of other people. One of them knew of a couple who needed to rehome their beloved Grey Henry due to the ill-health of the husband. They'd had Henry for half of his forty-five years and were ever so attached to him. They were given lots of info about me ans how I keep my birds and eventually chose me to rehome Henry with. No money changed hands. All they wanted was a good home with someone they trusted for their Henry. |

Just letting you guys know, most of the birds on CL are usually bought at low price from someone just trying to get them a good home, then resold to make a profit. It is a horrible fate for these birds because they are just tossed from house to house. I saw this happen with a Blue Fronted Amazon, and also a Hahn's Macaw in Columbus, OH. Also, rescues themselves can be a bunch of bull. It's harder to adopted from their organization, then adopting a human child! I recently rescued my parrot from a very AWFUL rescue group. The lady seriously sat there telling me to feed my Macaw double cheese burgers from McDonald's. He also smelled like smoke and was filthy. Beware of who you trust!
