Holy crap! I can't believe that's the reason they gave for giving him up! I mean, I have no doubt it's the truth, so I guess you have to give them credit for being honest, but holy crap! I hope someone finds him and gives him the FOREVER home he deserves.

That looks like the owner just was done with her "new toy" and is moving on to something else.

I get tired of the ones that say Needs to be Only bird in home. After 28 years of raising, rehab and owning birds having just one is not good for the bird it is unfair. We got an email for a M2 needing a home, they want it to be only bird, and needs at least 5 hours of caudling and rubbing. I replied if you dont teach a M2 to be self entertained, provide toys to be destroyed, shreeded and foraging games you will have a huge problem and suggesting he be rubbed, what a nightmare. Like the saying goes you cant fix stupid!

So everyone that needs (or wants) to rehome a bird should give it up for free or at the very least accept what you're willing to pay because you think you're a good home for it?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

There are people on this board that have scammed people out of birds then turned around and sell them for a profit. They have credibility that they are a good owner, they post on Birdboard!

For crying out loud, it is nobodies business but the owner of the bird. You can't force your moral/values/opinions on others. Life don't work that way.

Not sure which of us that was aimed at but in Henry's case there was no advertising, the rehoming process was done via personal recommendation (the lady who bred Mojo and Shinda is a friend of Henry's previous owner and she knows very well I would NEVER sell Henry on) and they absolutely did not want to gain financially from their loss.

I see it every day too, and I continue to torture myself just about every hour hoping one of these days the price will drop to something I can afford and get them straight to a vet... There's a poor Nanday in a dang parakeet cage I've been watching, hoping that the poor thing will go down in price so I can nab him......my husband is still saying no, but the Nanday might follow me home anyway.
Anywho, I can sit here and say 'don't look at it then' but I know its difficult. You just have a big heart, and big hearts are LOUD. ^-^ Very difficult to will yourself away from those that need help.

Phoenix is the first bird I've owned, and I found her on CL. I didn't scam anyone at all, and Phoenix is going NO WHERE anytime soon. Her owners dropped the already low price for two cages, her, all her toys, and a bag of food after seeing that I really did do my homework and could provide a great home for her.

Those that have neglected the bird, abused the bird, were ignorant in the fact that it's 'just a bird', shouldn't be trying to SELL a now psycologically/emotionally damaged, and usually unhealthy bird. It doesn't matter how much money they put into him/her; their new owner will have a TON more in vet bills/new cage/ect. Its just sickening. If someone is really trying to rehome their beloved pets due to whatever issues, it shouldn't be a problem if their new owners know what goes into birds/have experience/ect but don't have the thousand dollars to drop on a whim. And while the person may be able to drop money just because they want it, doesn't mean they are a good person...they could be ignorant also.

Its a sad, depressing thing. No one is trying to twist anyone's morals or views or opinions. For those that do turn around and resell the bird for ridiculous amounts, I feel those people should be crammed into a cage and treated like the bird had been. Of course, that won't happen, but it is a nice thought.

Anyway, those are my OPINIONS. I posted that on CL once, and it instantly got flagged. Guess no one really wants the truth.

:sigh:

Not everyone who charges a rehome fee is trying to scam you, in my case I felt like it was a "filtering mechanism" to weed out people adopting a bird on a whim. I was willing to negotiate if someone was very serious and was short on money.

I just adopted my bird, he really didn't have any issues and I gave the adopter a nice cage, a sleep cage, a travel cage and a ton of toys and perches, etc. The adopters seemed to think that what I asked was fair.

Bottom line is that the fair asking price is what the adopter(s) are willing to pay.

You see a bird on CL or any other site for that matter that you think is overpriced then surf on past.
