It might help if you post where you are, that way if you are in say florida you dont get offers from alaska.

Might help to if you say if you are looking for a baby or an adult who has already hit their hormones.

Lookingfor a blue and gold

I highly recommend you do not purchase the B&g in Pa. It is a breeder and as the person says will not be hand tame. It will take alot of work for you to even calm it down. You do not have experience so a breeder is a bad choice. Macaws are very big birds and come with all kinds of behaviors.. I don't know that as a beginner I would even start with a Macaw. Talk to people on here and ask their opinions.

you might find it helpful to contact rescues... there you can gather some experience with handling the big guys and might find the perfect fit for you.

where are you located?

I know a man here locally, that has one he is trying to re-home. I could put you in touch with him if you are interested. Where are you located?

Me personally, I think if a Macaw is what you want, well then that is what you should get. I do not believe in "starter" birds." They tend to end up being "throw-away" birds in many cases. If there is a breed/species you are interested in, do your research and be prepared to handle what ever it is that you choose. A lot of time, patience, knowledge and understanding is crucial no matter what type of bird you choose to bring home.

I dont get this post at all! So what does it mean? There is only one breeder in PA?? A Breeder is the best choice for any bird. A Good Breeder, get referances, go visit. Meet Adult birds and buy a baby. Its way easier to getover some of those big beak fears if you find a good Breeder who will let you visit before the baby is ready to come home. Supervised , you can learn allot from a good breeder. Visit as many adult birds first as you can. Go to shelters and rescues.

Lori, there was another post from someone who was placing one of his breeder birds because it wasn't fertile. I think Greycloud was just warning against getting this specific non-handtamed bird.

I know that there are a lot of bad things about CraigsList. However, I have successfully adopted really great birds from really great people who loved the birds and took very good care of them. You just need to be able to ask all the right questions. Why are they rehoming, what is the bird fed, do they have an avian vet or hatch papers, has the bird been DNA'd, etc. And, have several phone converstations. Talking to someone on the phone can tell you a lot. There is one here in Columbus that she would adopt out for $500 to the right person. I would jump at it but...I already have Lola.

I also email the people I adopted from on a regular basis and keep in touch. They SO appreciate that and we are friends.

So, Craigslist can be a good way...if you avoid the less than stellar individual that wants to trade his for a golf cart!
