Advice please!!! Urgent!!

My baby Sydney left our home accidently on 7/28/09. He has been out in the wild ever since. I had three calls yesterday all from the same general area saying they saw him. One lady actually "almost" got Syd to land on her, as she was in her yard, (she has received one of many post cards in her mailbox from me and saw the poster at the local sotre) she spotted him for the second time yesterday. She started calling to him, asking if he was hungry, and put her arm out for him to land. Syd circled about 3 times, and looked like he was going to land, but then the lady's cat came out of her barn, and Syd flew away. Twenty minutes later, I got another call from a neighbor saying she had spotted him about half a mile from the first sighting. Of course as soon as I get there he has moved on, but it seems he is staying in this general vivinity. The major problem is that we are in the country, and the area he is in is VERY wooded. I have already received permission from all land owners to go in search any time I need to, but now that I know what area he is in, how do I narrow the search? I have his "outside" cage set up, with food and water in it, but he has not entered it. It is along this stretch of property where he has been sighted many times. I am terrified that the weather is getting TOO cold for him. It has dropped down as cold as 46 degrees at night several times, and he aparently lived through those nights, but the longer this goes on, the worse it is going to get. Last night is was 49. Please....Please, if you have any ideas....share them with me. It is killing me knowing he is SO close, but I can't get to him. Anyone

Wow, I am so sorry. I don't have any suggestions other than getting a few friends, even a small cage if you have one, and put it where he was last seen. He is hungry, so that may help if you have lots of food that smells yummy like peanut butter. I will keep you both in my prayers, and I hope this story has a happy ending.

I'm sorry you lost him :( I hope you can get him back, don't give up. Is there another bird he would recognize that you could take outside near where he has been sighted, in order to call him back in bird language? I have heard cases where another bird (usually a flock friend) calls the lost bird back. I would also (if you haven't already) put out many posters with a big reward, inspiring other people to go out of their way to help with your search. At least it sounds like he's still in the area!

Im so sorry to hear about Sydney. Im glad to hear he is staying in the area! Don't lose hope, animals have an amazing sense of home and can show up when you least expect it. I will keep you in my thoughts, I know this is very hard. *hugs*

I live in FL, but coincidentally, my daughter lives about 1 mile east of the Erie airport. Is this anywhere near you? Either way, I will forward the information about Sydney to her and make sure she informs all of her friends of your plight. The more people are aware, the better opportunity you have of getting Sydney back before the real cold weather sets in.

I know you must be terribly distraught but do not give up hope…keep pressing on! There are many wonderful stories of FIDS being reunited with their flock after long periods of time.

God bless you and Sydney.

I'm not sure but here's some suggestions off the top of my head:
What type of parrot is Sydney? Perhaps if there is someone you know with the same type of parrot, you could put it outside in the areas he's been seen in and see if he comes down to say hello, or see if they call to each other? Just a thought!
Do you think he'd come to you if he heard your voice? Have you tried walking around with a megaphone in an area he's recently been seen in? Make sure you have a very good net with you, because the last thing you want is for him to land on you and then fly off again.
ALso does any of your neighbours feed the wild birds? If they don't, get to start, and maybe Sydney will start visiting the feeders. Birds are pretty canny with watching other birds to find out where the food is, so if he sees other birds flying somewhere to eat he might follow.
