Have room for rescue/sanctuary/adoption

Hello!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Winged Buddies Sanctuary/Rescue/Adoption has room for large companion birds at the present. I am located in Winfield, BC Canada, so if you know of someone in this area in need of a place to surrender their bird to, I would be happy to help.

Generally speaking rescues and sanctuaries get their reputation from word of mouth. No advertising or announcements are needed.

??

Kind of hard to get word of mouth going if you are just starting as I am. This is how I am doing it. Just wanting to help people in my area.

Sorry but if I were to advise someone, in your area or in any area for that matter, to send a bird to a rescue or sanctuary then I would recommend they send that bird or birds to a rescue located in a tropical environment where they can feel the sun on their bodies everyday of the year and where they could take rain showers and have good humidity etc. ... I'm sorry, but how do you people know what I have available, or what is currently being built?

Droynon - you will get all types of Opinions on here some you just have to take with a grain of salt. But in any case dont advertise too hard or you will overwhelmed beyond your wildest dreams in a very short time with pluckers, screamers and whatever. Times are tough and birds are being surrendered like crazy. Do you have a good Quarentine area set up?? Do you have an awesome Avian vet on call?? These are some things you will need to have ready besides your nice Avairy? How many isolated cases can you hold? Is it one Aviary or several ? What are your Quarantine procedures? what are your rehoming and medical procedures, fees and plans? Im just curious for future ref. YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME,lol

Thank you Lori~D for your nice comments. Yes, it is all under control. I have room for 3 quarantines at a time and have a good avian vet. I am well aware of pluckers and screamers and have worked with my fair share already. I'm not really advertising, just placing a helping hand post on a couple of bird forums, so that other bird people know I'm there.

I don't think this forum is for me though. I appreciate your comments about taking things with a grain of salt, but just don't take well to immediate aggression.

I have been working with birds for a long time and it seems that some of you think that I just decided I wanted to do something with birds and went into it blind. Here is part of my mission statement as it is fairly long, this is the short version.

Winged Buddies Aviary specializes in parrot rescue and adoption, when possible, to enhance the quality of life for large companion birds. We do this through rehabilitation (when needed) combined with proper health care and the education of the potential bird owner in proper bird care practices.

Most birds that are ‘surrendered’ come from caring homes, but occasionally, some do not. Those are the birds that need the most love, work and rehab and may not be eligible to be re-homed. We are a network of bird lovers who determine the needs of each bird and place them accordingly or provide forever homes.

Thanks to those of you who opened my eyes to the fact that not all animal people are the best.

Oh come on now Droyon, don't leave because I made a comment about what I know from experience is best for birds. I meant well for the birds that will be surrendered to whomever in the future, I was not trying to offend or judge you personally in any way.

Trying to find words to please each member to whom I talk to or refer to has never been my forte. Stay and show all of us how your rescue is constructed and how well off the birds are with you, the ones you take in and keep us informed on the quality type homes that you find for the birds you take in. The proof then will be in the pudding, as they say. There are many bad rescues out there. Their intentions may have been good when they started but did not wind up so, not for the birds anyway. Show me/us with pictures how comfy they are in their temperature controlled environments with the best quality F.S. Lighting available, etc. ... Of course you do not have to do any of this but it would be great to show others how it should be done by someone so well intentioned as yourself.

Have a nice day.

Maybe Lori knows?
