Very interesting article. My sister is doing her dissertation for her Masters/PhD on wood storks and she also works for the fish and wildlife organization and does research on wood storks for them while also for her dissertation. And when I went to visit her down in Florida last March, I was able to go out to some of the sites where the wood storks have colonies and nests and I got to see them up close and pretty personal (without being obtrusive, of course) and they are amazing birds!

Lindy,
I live in Florida also and we see so many wood storks in and out of season.
Very neat about your sister.
There is one group of wood storks that hangs out behind my grocery store and eats out of the dumpster. The store manager thought they were vultures and was throwing things at them. Boy did I set him straight.

Good for you, Lynda! We just have your run of the mill geese and mallard ducks up here in Illinois, yet I still see people, one man in particular, who throw things at and even try to hook them with fishing poles!!! After trying to speak with the man and getting nowhere, I called the police and learned that I was not the only person who had called on him that day and guess what...I have not seen him since!!! I am so glad for that too because it really makes my blood boil when I see people hurting animals!

I'm really glad to hear you called the cops on that guy!! So many people are willing to just stand by and watch.
